들려주고 싶은 이야기 (2024)
A Story to be Told
In Korea, there is a project from the government where they match certified artists with companies to make art, known as 예술로 (Yeseul-ro, meaning ‘through art’). In 2024 I was in a team of 5 artists of different fields, paired up with Jeonnam Development Corporation (전남개발공사). Our team had two talented violinists and a stage director and thus our projects were street performances for elders of small villages.
Aside from the street performance, we decided to make a video portraying Geum-o island (금오도) located in Yeosu. The island is facing a great loss of population since the younger community move out as they grow up because of education and work issues, and the remaining population grow older and end up leaving due to the lack of access to health care infrastructure.
Our idea was to show two different generation facing each other in the beauty of the island, communicating with each other through words, look, and music. We wanted a more artistic approach rather than being literal and thankfully Jeonnam Development Corporation was optimistic about it. Below is the outcome.
